Showdown @ Unobtainium: Insults Round 1

What do you get when you marry a steampunk meet up with a comic con, a music festival, a county fair, the "virtual-world-made-real" approach of a Renaissance festival, toss in a rabid fan base, add a plethora of inventors, hackers, revisionist historians, and "makers," wrap it in a carefully constructed mythos......and add electricity?

Many thanks to our sponsors!

Comicpalooza

I am already getting pumped for Comicpalooza in Houston, TX! It is May 27-29th and once again being held at the George R. Brown Convention Center. (I really love this location... parking is so easy...)

I'm thinking of making a zombie steampunk outfit for this con.
We'll see how that turns out. :]

People I'm excited to see this year?
Sean Maher (the doctor Simon from Firefly), Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte from True Blood), Jennie Breeden (author of webcomic The Devil's Panties), David Mack (creator of Kabuki), Terry Moore (creator of Strangers In Paradise), and Ari Marmell (author of The Conqueror’s Shadow and  The Warlord’s Legacy which I'll be bringing to get signed.)

Groups I am excited to see?
Chanson de Vie (CDV) dance troupe, The Braggart Family SideCircus and Midnight Carnival.

Go check out the ever growing guest list: http://www.comicpalooza.com/comicpalooza-guests.html

Will I see you there?

Pics from the Connnnnnn...

My booth on Sunday.

My booth babe. XD
He's gonna have to dress as the old school Joker one of these years...

Rob Liefeld was at the end of our aisle. :D

If I stood on my toes I could see Humberto's Booth from where I was. Thank goodness he wasn't right across from me; I would not have been able to get any work done...

This shot is of artist alley but I took it in the morning on Friday so not all the dealers were set up. Wish I had grabbed a shot mid-Saturday. Things were hopping then. :D

Another shot of our booth. :)

Did I just see...? Cos-players from Comicpalooza.

Margaret grabbed some awesome shots:
These are from my phone:

Shots from the Con - Thursday Set-Up and Saturday Final

It was good to see they were going to have food stalls for the con. =) Awesome smoothies. The pic is from Thursday's set-up.

The Artist Alley had a good spot. It was set right outside the dealers room and was seen before the dealers room. We had pretty good traffic. This is the pic from Thursday's set-up.

Yay! My table! Pic is from Thursday's set-up.

:D

Margaret, from "DalloftheABOVE", took a shot of our booth. =)

This is from Saturday.

Comicpalooza: Humberto Ramos

So... this is the guy I'm gonna be stalking at Comicpalooza.

I fell in love with his work on DV8 and then when he created Crimson and Out There that kind of sealed the deal. :P I just love his style.... it's chewy sharp yum yum. Yeah, if I meet him I'm sure I'll just clam up and not be able to speak beyond "H-h-hi!" and then promptly pass out or hyperventilate. Whatever comes first...

Then during the Marvel: Civil War arch he did a stint on Wolverine... It renewed my love all over.
He was originally going to be at Comicpalooza last year but due to all the H1N1/Swine Flu problems with flying he made a good choice to just stay at home and come this year.

Looking forward to getting my hands on Fairy Quest too...

How sweet is that wolf?
Check out more of his work and his twitter/blog/etc...

Comicpalooza: Chanson de Vie

http://www.chansondevie.com/
Chanson de Vie is a belly dancing group that draws their style from quite a few sources resulting in a wide mix of steampunk, gypsy, gothic and tribal dancing. Check them out! They will be holding panels and also will be selling hip wraps and costumes among other things.

Comicpalooza: Airship Isabella

http://www.myspace.com/airshipisabella
Airship Isabella is an audio/visual perfomance group that also craft steampunk inspired items.

Comicpalooza: Bruce Campbell

Did I mention Bruce Campbell was going to be there?
John at Midnight Comics has some mad skillz...
This is who my husband will be stalking... :)

Midnight Comics Run! Displays! Love Tokens! Oh My!

I hit Midnight Comics today for a monthly Deadpool fix and ran into John, the man behind Comicpalooza. Hehehe, I am getting pumped for this. It sounds like he has pulled a good amount of some great names for this year. One of the sponsors has something in the works that just sounds awesome...but I don't know if I'm allowed to say anything more on that... :D
Searching for display materials has kept me busy recently. I am away from my supplies at the moment but I'll be working on another batch of tokens soon.

For Valentine's and just for love in general I'm working on a series called "Tokens of Affection." Been trying to brainstorm about them and I can't wait to get to work on them. Ever heard of a Victorian Love Token? I'll make a post about them later so keep an eye out.
