Victorian Love Tokens

While working on my "Tokens of Affection" I was doing some random research about main symbols of affection during Victorian times and I stumbled upon some information about Victorian Love Tokens.
Men would take a coin and level out one of the sides and engrave symbols like doves, hearts or cupids along with the names of their loved ones and often give them to the women they were to marry. They would also bend one of the sides of the coins up. The women would then keep them in their purse so they would always have them on themselves as a sign of loyalty and as a reminder of their love. As time went on the tokens appearing were always flat but still made from altered coins. People who couldn't get their hands on the silver used copper and those that had enough for silver occasionally saved up for gold.

Midnight Comics Run! Displays! Love Tokens! Oh My!

I hit Midnight Comics today for a monthly Deadpool fix and ran into John, the man behind Comicpalooza. Hehehe, I am getting pumped for this. It sounds like he has pulled a good amount of some great names for this year. One of the sponsors has something in the works that just sounds awesome...but I don't know if I'm allowed to say anything more on that... :D
Searching for display materials has kept me busy recently. I am away from my supplies at the moment but I'll be working on another batch of tokens soon.

For Valentine's and just for love in general I'm working on a series called "Tokens of Affection." Been trying to brainstorm about them and I can't wait to get to work on them. Ever heard of a Victorian Love Token? I'll make a post about them later so keep an eye out.

The Browncoats Album "Space Age Loser" on iTunes

The Browncoat's album "Space Age Loser" is now available on iTunes.
A couple of my favorites are "Where's my Hovercraft?", "Amelia", and their rendition of "The Hero of Canton."

The song "Amelia" took on a whole new light when I heard in their performance that it was a song about the lead singer's daughter. It gives me warm fuzzies. *^_^*

Here is a track list for "Space Age Loser":

  • Intro - Whiskey Medicine
  • Space Age Loser
  • Kill the Rabbit
  • Where's My Hovercraft?
  • Amelia
  • The Hero of Canton
  • Captain Moerke Loads Into the Theatre
  • Ballad of the Broadway Legend
  • МОСКОВСКИЙ ХУЛИГАН (The Moscow Hooligan)
  • Sirens' Call
  • War of the Worlds
  • Trans - Siberian Express

Mike's Hard Lemonade Caps

I love these caps!! My favorite colors to work with are the black and silver combo.

I mentioned before in my blog the way that the Mike's lemon on the cap gets covered by the gear and looks like a clocked out eye.

I love it! Hehehe, just had to share.

Hope your week is going well. Friday is almost here!

Abney Park at A-Kon 21!

One of my current music obsessions, Abney Park, will be performing Saturday night at A-Kon.
This took me by surprise and though I won't be selling at A-Kon, I'll be rocking to Abney Park and the two bands performing on Friday night, SEKIMA II and Inugami Circus Dan.
One more thing that has me hyped about A-Kon 21?
The theme is penguins.
I have such a soft spot for stuffed penguins...

Tomorrow I'll posts some pics of some of my other token designs.

DRY!

Here is the new design! It is The 3 Gears with 1 Pin. I love the way it looks with the pin. All the outside gears are mobile too.

I am thinking I will make these necklaces but I will have to see... I love Mike's Hard Lemonade bottle caps for this! The lemon gets covered up a little and ends up looking like an eye with the gear.
It has been raining all yesterday and today; I'm wondering if that caused them to dry slower... Next week I'll post some of the other designs I have had already. I was just a little pumped about the way this one turned out. Have a great week and stay warm and dry!

The Token Designs

Welcome to Turner's Tokens!

I figured I would start this off with an intro to some of my basic pieces. I'll keep posting new designs I create. Each piece is original in the design based on the background inside the cap, the caps themselves and the gears inside. The only time I make something duplicate is when I just really like the way it turned out! (Even then, they aren't the same because of the background.)

I offer both soda and beer caps. You never know when a school is going to get picky about backpack chains, key chains, or boot chains and I want to make sure my customers can enjoy them in all walks of life!

Right now I have some basic layouts for the Tokens I sell.
The Spinner with a Gear:
The Filled Spinner with a Gear:

The Spinner with Token and Gear:
The Spinner with Token and 2 Gears:

I try to write a story with each piece I make to create something unique for you.
Like the Spinner with Token and 2 Gears, there is a woman's face pictured inside with a gear surrounding it. The Token says "Moments."
Create your own story around these small tidbits and lose yourself in your daydreams.
